The Tomorrow Exchange
London, 1926.
London, 1926. For one minute after midnight, a few unused lines at Crown Exchange carry fragments of calls that will be made twenty-four hours later. Night supervisor Evelyn Price and her operators know the future can change, and that changing it leaves dangerous contradictions behind. When junior operator Elsie Morton hears her own future voice warning Evelyn not to connect a new national trunk and dies before the call can ever be made, Evelyn discovers that bookmakers and financiers have been paying women for tomorrow's market and racing news. Engineer Arthur Bell arrives to investigate rising current surges, and together they learn that every intervention strengthens the anomaly. With a nationwide cutover approaching, Evelyn must rely on the operators' uncredited knowledge of the real network to stop a citywide cascade, expose the men profiting from the echoes, and protect a career that her growing attachment to Arthur could also put at risk.
