Good in a Crisis
Dr Simone Okafor is usually good in a crisis.
Dr Simone Okafor is usually good in a crisis. Then her father collapses in the emergency department where she works, and suddenly she is not the consultant with the answers. She is a frightened daughter watching other people save him while a major electrical failure throws the hospital into chaos. Facilities engineer Daniel Price is one of the few people who makes that night easier. He is calm without being controlling, funny without trying too hard, and infuriatingly good at noticing when Simone has forgotten to eat. As her father begins a stubborn, uneven recovery, Daniel keeps turning up, and friendship starts becoming something Simone wants far more than is convenient. She is already stretched between her father, a demanding job and the promotion she has worked years to earn. Dating someone at the same hospital is complicated enough. Then Simone learns Daniel has been warning management about recurring electrical failures for months. The hospital has built its reputation on people like Simone keeping things running. Now she has to decide how much she is willing to see when the cracks are no longer hidden.
